At Gresham Pediatric Dentistry, our focus is on preventative care but sometimes cavities happen. In fact, even the most careful brusher and flosser could end up with a cavity or two. That’s where restorative dentistry comes in. It’s good to know that your child is getting the benefit of the most up-to-date knowledge and techniques in dental repair and restorations, from minor cavities to more involved procedures.
WHEN IS A CAVITY NOT A CAVITY? WHEN IT’S CAUGHT EARLY ENOUGH, THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY DEVELOPING CAVITIES CAN BE RECOVERED AND REPAIRED BY DIET MODIFICATION, MORE EFFECTIVE ORAL HYGIENE AT HOME AND POSSIBLY REGULAR APPLICATION OF FLUORIDE VARNISH.
The Gresham team uses your child’s regular check-up to look for signs of any potential problem spots. If cavities are found we will discuss treatment options with you and decide on a course of action that leads to the best outcome. We are experts in making any necessary dental procedure as easy and comfortable as possible.
Traditional dentistry is the first and foremost method we always try to attempt. The child would receive a “shot” and get ‘drilled’ just like an adult would at their dental appointment. Many children actually do great and parents are always surprised by the appointment.
Hall crowns are an excellent option for patients who are unable to be sedated and have moderate needs. Our “no-numb no-drill” approach has helped many patients; in the long term, doing any dental treatment fully awake is always the best approach, as it helps the kids to grow up and be better adult dental patients.
